The Wheatley site is where it all started & where all of the production is made. Cornfield Bakery have been at this site since it was first built in 1972. Initially it was a shop & Coffee room plus a small finishing room, and was supplied with goods from the bakery where my father worked. After the early struggling years it was decided that the only way to make it work was to bake on the premises, so the coffee room made way for the bakery. When I took control in 1985 my early decisions where to push the snack food & to branch out into wholesale deliveries, both proved to be very good moves (Though not all of my decisions where good ones of course.)
Due to the steady growth of the business over the years we have outgrown the bakery at Wheatley. This has forced us to look for ways of coping with the increasing demand. So we have recently aquired another bakery in Long Crendon, Nr Thame, where we now make most of our fermented products & we now use the wheatley site for confectionary production.
The business is still under my regien along with my wife Rachel. My son Joe is now Bakery manager at the Long Crendon site & is slowly pushing me out of the bakery more & more (thank goodness) and four more of our children, my mother & sister in law & a nephew all work in the business, so you see it is still very much a family concern, although I have to say it's not without great help and commitment from our very good staff too.
